Rehearsal and Recital Information

Rehearsal on Tuesday May 15th at the Sky Centre!!!!!!!!!!!

5:00 Wednesday Tiny Tots

5:10 Tuesday Tiny Tots

5:30 PrePrimary Ballet

5:45 PrePrimary Combo

6:00 Finale - all students

6:45 Run in order of show (minus the little groups) – Hopefully we will be done by 8:30!

All students are required to be there for 6:00 pm. We will then run the Finale (which includes all of the students); hopefully this will only take about 45 minutes. From there we will proceed in the order of the recital. We have put the Tiny Tots and Pre-Primary Groups BEFORE the Finale as it becomes a long night for the little ones! Everyone else we hope to be out of there by 8:30ish; again, we realize this is a long night for everyone but it is really important to work out the spacing and the lighting and the on and off stages. Costumes are not required, just dance clothes and shoes.

THIS IS A CLOSED REHEARSAL. This means that parents will be allowed to wait in the foyer of the Sky Center but will not be permitted to watch the rehearsal. It is loud enough with 100+ kids to try and get through everything that to add parents, we would be there for 3 days. Students are allowed to bring water, but outside food or beverages are not permitted. Outside food may be eaten outside of the Sky Center (sidewalk or in parents vehicles). We realize this is anything but convenient, however, those are the rules. As well, please enter through the Sky Centre doors on the west side of the building.

Rehearsals at the studio:

Wednesday, May 23rd: STUDIO
5:00 FINALE, then in show order
7:00 Grade 4 Tap
7:45 Intermediate Jazz
8:30 Advanced Jazz
9:15 Finish

Thursday, May 24th: STUDIO
5:00 FINALE, then in show order
7:00 Primary Tap
7:30 Primary Jazz
8:00 Grade 1 Jazz
8:30 Grade 2 Tap
9:00 Finish

Saturday, May 26th: Studio
5:00 FINALE, then in show order
7:30 Finish

Yes, this is for all students and yes, there are 3 preshow rehearsals. We as a staff have decided to do 3 this year because now that soccer, ball, school plays, etc. have started, attendance in May has been quite spotty. Therefore, if there are 3 pre-rehearsals then people will have hopefully be able to make it to 2 of them and then don’t miss out on rehearsal the week before recital. If you can make it to all of them that would be great!!!!! These are instead of regular classes.

Recital on Sunday May 27th, 3:30 and 6:30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Wednesday Tiny Tots are dancing in the 3:30 show; Tuesday Tiny Tots are dancing in the 6:30 show. Everyone else is dancing in both shows!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Please arrive one hour prior to curtain call dressed and ready to go in your first costume.
  • All Students are required to come through DOOR 6 which is on the backside of the Sky Center. Parents, please drop your children there; the volunteers will collect the students and bring them to their appropriate areas. Once you have dropped off your child, you can pick them up at the end of the show from the stage. The curtain will close and then feel free to come get them. There is a closed circuit TV backstage and an area that the students can watch the recital from. There will be water, games and babysitters backstage as well.
  • Please feed your children prior to bringing them and then make sure they eat in between shows as well to keep their energy level up.
  • We have parent volunteers designated to each of the younger groups to take care of them backstage. If you wish to be a parent volunteer just let us know and we will put you to work!
  • Again, make sure you arrive 1hr prior to curtain call dressed in your first costume with hair and make-up done. Make sure you have all of your shoes, accessories, correct colour of tights and correct colour of shoes, all of your costumes and your smiles!!!!!!!!!!
  • After the show, buckets will be available backstage to return all of your accessories/props.

DVD envelopes are available at the studio, if you wish to have a DVD of the show fill out the envelope and return it to us anytime up to recital day.

After the recital is over, dance is over for the season (except for a few exam people); have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you back again in the fall!

Early registration information will be sent out soon as well.

If you have any questions about anything please call us at 778-2205 or email at backstage@sasktel.net.

The Backstage Dance Co.

Hello Everyone,

This is just a quick little note to give you a description of how stage makeup should be done:

  • Line upper eyelids only with black mascara and carry the line out 1-2 cm past the eye to create “cat eyes”
  • Cover the top eyelid with brown eyeshadow
  • Brush white or silver eyeshadow above the eyelid underneath the eye brow and blend on the sides
  • Black mascara on top and bottom lashes; it is up to you if you want to use fake lashes
  • Use a pink blush on the cheeks (if you smile when you apply it, it ends up in the perfect place!)
  • Make sure your lips are RED!

We hope this helps!

Thanks,

Backstage
